Welcome to Techno
Heaven. We will be revamping the information on
this site over the next few weeks, so make sure to come back and see the
improvements and additions. This site hopes to provide a good starting
point for Techno Music for the Techno Music Fan and wouldn't be here if
it weren't for these talented and helpful DJs
(yep, you have to click to find out who).

Early
Detroit Techno
(recommended CDs | Full
Info Page)
| Many
historical reconstructions of techno's past name Kraftwerk and funk
music as the sole influences on early techno. Perhaps it is this quote
from techno pioneer Derrick May that set the precedent for this connection:
"The music [techno] is just like Detroit - a complete mistake.
It's like George Clinton and Kraftwerk stuck in an elevator"

| The
story of techno begins not in early-eighties Detroit, as is so often
claimed, but in early-seventies Dusseldorf, where Kraftwerk built
their KlingKlang sound factory and churned out pioneering synth-and-drum-machine
tracks like "Autobahn"

Kraftwerk was
always very Detroit too because of the industry in Detroit, and because
of the mentality. That music automatically appeals to the people like
a tribal calling - Derrick May 1992
(one of the "Belleville Three") |
| Starting with 1974's
Autobahn, Kraftwerk single-handedly moved electronic instrumentation
out of the cloistered workspaces of inventors and theoreticians and
into the bloodstream of popular music -

| Early Detroit
techno sounds are still available on CD. We have a webpage
devoted to them! Music by the "Belleville Three" in
the Golden Detroit Age lives on... Derrick May, Juan Atkins, Kevin
Saunderson and Eddie Fowlkes (OK, Eddie would make it four). |
New Additions to the site:
Site Notes:
The buttons on
the top of every page take you to the various sections in Techno
Heaven.
The buttons on
the left side are grouped by those same sections - the heading
for each section will take you to that section - while the buttons under
it take directly to the site named on the button!
And
now for something completely different... Burning
Man 1999 is just over, but there are already pictures, stories
and articles all over the web. We have a quick Burning
Man Overview page right here in Heaven - or use the handy Burning
Man links page - or browse the many sites on the Ring
Of Fire webring - or just start at the official
Burning Man site!
