Create Techno

It is definitely not as easy as it appears - but you can try your hand at creating some Techno Music yourself! However, keep in mind that you need permission to include tracks from other artists' albums if you decide to distribute copies of your mixes. XLR8R has a short article about this called "CD Bootleggers" in issue 33.

Software

Software to create Techno music on your computer includes Acid: Music, Mixman Studio Pro and a variety of Cakewalk programs. We will soon expand this section with an overview of the various programs and their capabilities.

Books

Audio on the Web - The Official IUMA Guide by Jeff Patterson & Ryan Melcher (1998) is a good guide to Audio on the web (hence it's title!).

Modern Recording Techniques, Fourth Edition by David Huber & Robert Runstein (1995) is a handy reference to actually recording your creations.

Craig Anderton's Revised and Updated Home Recording for Musicians by Craig Anderton (1996) is a good book to introduce the various recording concepts to a beginner in the recording field. It's written for someone who knows music and wants to understand the recording side.

Magazines

XLR8R magazine - includes reviews and recommendations on current techno music as well as articles and news! They now have all their back issues on their website!

Computer Music (from UK) - this is a great magazine for those new to creating music on their computer! The July 1999 issue includes 2 FREE CD-ROMs!

Sound On Sound (UK's Biggest Selling Hi-tech Music Recording Magazine)

Electronic Musician - published in USA by Intertec

Mix - Professional Recording, Sound and Music Production - published in USA by Intertec

More to come...
