Already know this stuff? Jump to StudyLight PAQAD Quick Help for using the StudyLight Word Study ... Remember, you are studying a HEBREW word, not an English word - but luckily they let us use english alphabet to refer to the Hebrew word :) For this example, the word PAQAD (Strongs #6485) is used ... this is what the initial screen looks like (change to a different word easily by typing an ENGLISH word in the SEARCH THIS RESOURCE text box):
Over on the RIGHT side you see a list of all the books that contain the word along with how many times it occurs in that book. Click on any book to see the verses for that book. In the screen shot above, we see all the verses for GENESIS (actually only the first two show up in the image I captured). It puts the word you are studying in BOLD LETTERS (marked "look"). You can click on the verse itself to see the verse (marked 1st - jump to 1st screenshot). Or you can read the verse "in context" which often is a good idea (marked 2nd - no screenshot or this gets too big). Or the cool thing is to look at the original Hebrew (marked 3rd - jump to 3rd screenshot). 1st Screenshot (clicked the verse):
WOW --- just hold your mouse over any of the underlined words in the verse and the STRONG number is displayed in your status bar at the bottom of your browser. Click on any of the words in the verse and a NEW window pops up giving you a definition of the word, how many times it appears in both KJV and NAS, and even a link that will SPEAK the word out loud for you (near top right side under phonetic spelling) Next, you can now switch between dozens of translations using the drop down list near the top of this screenshot. As you change translations, you can watch to see if the way the word was translated changes. 3rd Screenshot (clicked "Original Hebrew"):
Click on the SIDE-BY-SIDE link for a cool display of the verse that is great for us nerds:
That's long enough ... too much gets to be a long download time! |
