About
Techno
(fancy name for related recommended LINKS elsewhere) What is Techno anyway? Ask five people and get five different answers. Thus this page will be a moving target. Please EMail the Webmaster with your suggestions for improvements or clarifications! Ele Mental has a very interesting History Of Techno that is quite inclusive! There are many Techno related sites on the web and we are not going to even try to provide a complete or comprehensive list of them. Instead, we will provide a few interesting places that we checked out ourselves and can recommend to you. Quick Jump List (within this webpage):
Madison: Madison Techno Info - we are partial to this site because we maintain it :) Now you can guess where our home base is. Sweden: Stjärtlapp - "Your guide to Swedish House and Techno". Very nice site design and interesting information, including Real Audio samples from albums. Toronto: Technologix.ORG (not .COM) - This is a great site - good variety including DJ photos. They also have a live NetCast on Sunday nights! San Francisco: Sister is an all female DJ collective in San Francisco. Other DJ collectives in the San Francisco area include Cloud Factory and Technostate. Detroit: Submerge is an interesting site with quite a variety including DJ Mixes and audio previews of albums. If you want a page full of links to Techno related websites, checkout Trance Domain. Hyperreal is a LARGE website that can give you a taste of what is out there - and overwhelm you as well. Take a quick look if you can. Absolut DJ has an interesting history of the DJ. About.com has a good Rave/House/Techno guide complete with links to the sites they consider essential for you to see. Rollin has an interesting site worth checking out. All Music Guide is a wonderful place to find more info about many of the Techno artists and DJs. They even chose one of the artists albums as their PICK - the best album from that artist in their opinion. iMusic is another site to find info about Techno artists and DJs. Ultimate Band List is a nice place to start when scouring the internet for info on some Techno Artist - they even will cross link to iMusic and All Music Guide. We moved all the info regarding Raves on to our Live Techno page! XLR8R is good Techno magazine with a nice web side to it as well. HUGE is an interesting RAVE magazine in both print and online forms. Massive Magazine is based in the Midwest and has some of its material online. DJ Times has an online site that is pretty slick. To find other related sites, you also can try the WebRings below. Note - we have not checked out these sites - so try at your own risk! :) WebRing #1
OK - so everyone seems to use YAHOO. We don't! We use Metacrawler first because it gives us a SMALL list of choices and almost everytime we find what we were looking for within those few places. If you are looking for MP3's on the internet LYCOS has a specific MP3 search engine - however, in our experience most of the choices they provide are dead links (no longer in existance). Listen.com lets you search for MP3 songs and we have had good luck with them (most links actually worked). Maybe the best way to search for a specific MP3 song is by using many different search engines - Rock N World gives you direct access to many of the best MP3 search engines. Send suggestions of sites that you highly recommend including WHY you are recommending them to: |
